Noise modelling and impact assessment

Need to assess an existing facility's noise footprint or compare development options before construction? We build acoustic models that connect source information with the surroundings, translating agreed operating scenarios into evidence for investors, operators and design teams considering their next decision.

Compare scenario impacts on a consistent basis

Modelling can assess situations that cannot be measured directly before a project is built. We begin by organising terrain, building, receiver and source information. Scenarios and operating conditions are defined around a specific question, such as the effect of a new installation or differences between alternative spatial layouts and operating arrangements being considered.

We build the model and calculate propagation using a method appropriate to the source type and assessment purpose. Results are examined at agreed receiver locations and across the surrounding area. For existing conditions, available measurements can help check assumptions where the datasets support comparison. Alternative scenarios are evaluated with their operating conditions and input information clearly described.

A model result is a prediction for a defined scenario, not a measurement of a future condition. Its usefulness depends on geometry, source parameters and operating assumptions. We explain material limitations and identify where improved information could affect a decision, allowing maps to support option selection without concealing uncertainty in the underlying inputs.

Technical data

Subject Noise propagation for existing conditions or planned development scenarios.
Service type Computational noise modelling and impact assessment.
Assessment basis and requirements Spatial and source data, operating scenarios, assessment criteria and a calculation method appropriate to the source.
Method
  1. Review input information and define the scenarios for comparison.
  2. Build model geometry and assign acoustic source parameters.
  3. Calculate receiver levels and spatial noise distributions.
  4. Compare options and explain assumptions and limitations.
Delivery model KFB Enviro

What you receive

You receive the model within the agreed handover scope, noise maps and an assessment report. The material describes inputs, scenarios and results at relevant locations, including comparison with adopted criteria. Conclusions support investment or operating decisions and identify information worth improving before the next stage of design.
