Noise strategy for machinery or installations

Translate equipment diagnosis into acoustic requirements

We start with the equipment's function, its use and the reason for the proposed change. Configuration, operating states and reported problems are reviewed, and available acoustic information is interpreted in its actual installation context. This establishes whether the main question concerns the source itself, its interaction with the installation or its impact during particular operations.

The diagnosis supports requirements that can be passed to the team responsible for development or modernisation. We define relevant reference conditions, information needs and criteria for subsequent comparison. Recommendations identify directions for engineering work and dependencies to consider, distinguishing findings supported by measurements from assumptions about a configuration that has not yet been designed or implemented.

The service covers diagnosis, data and design recommendations; it excludes research and development work and chamber testing. The final solution requires preparation by the responsible team and verification under specified conditions. We identify a suitable comparison approach so that differences in load or surroundings are not incorrectly treated as the effect of modernisation alone.

Technical data

Subject Machinery or installation noise under actual operating conditions.
Service type Acoustic diagnosis and requirements for modernisation or development.
Assessment basis and requirements Equipment documentation, operating conditions, available measurements and the objectives and constraints of the proposed change.
Method
  1. Define the equipment configuration and acoustic improvement objective.
  2. Interpret source information and relevant operating conditions.
  3. Formulate requirements and directions for subsequent design work.
  4. Define comparable conditions before and after the proposed modification.
Delivery model KFB Enviro

What you receive

You receive acoustic requirements, organised data and design recommendations for the identified equipment or installation. The material describes the problem, reference conditions and issues for the design team to resolve. It supports modernisation and later performance checks without including R&D activities, prototype development or testing of equipment in a chamber.

Scope and limitations

R&D work and chamber testing excluded

On-site noise emission measurements for machinery and installations

Understand a source in its actual operating environment

Installation conditions, operating load and neighbouring equipment can influence the acoustic behaviour of a working machine. We agree which parameter and operating condition need to be described, then review the site constraints. Source access, background sound and the surrounding environment inform selection of a field method suited to the purpose and the available conditions.

Measurements are performed under documented operating conditions, considering equipment configuration and relevant neighbouring sources. Processed data can support comparisons between agreed operating states or provide a source characterisation for further assessment. We explain precisely which acoustic quantity has been determined and under what conditions, avoiding confusion between sound levels measured nearby and other acoustic parameters.

Field results relate to the tested configuration and selected method. They are not automatically equivalent to a laboratory characterisation or a declaration covering every application of the equipment. Where background sound or access prevents a suitable determination, we identify the limitation and any need for different test conditions. Laboratory and chamber testing are excluded from this service.

Technical data

Subject Noise emission from machinery or installations at their operating location.
Service type On-site acoustic characterisation of an actual noise source.
Assessment basis and requirements Intended use of results, equipment operating parameters and a field method suited to the source and its surroundings.
Method
  1. Agree acoustic parameters and operating states to be investigated.
  2. Review access, background sound and field measurement constraints.
  3. Measure noise with the equipment configuration documented.
  4. Prepare source data and define their appropriate use.

What you receive

You receive source characterisation data and a measurement report describing configuration, conditions and methodology. The document explains suitable uses for comparison or assessment and the limitations arising from field conditions. It does not include laboratory or chamber testing, which belongs to the separate scope of KFB Labs services.

Scope and limitations

Laboratory and chamber testing excluded

Acoustic requirements and design review

Define the criteria before choosing the solution

We start with project objectives, affected locations and the responsibilities of the parties involved. Source parameters are distinguished from environmental noise requirements so that the specification does not confuse different quantities. Relevant operating conditions, supplier information needs and the application of criteria to equipment, installations or the complete facility are then defined for the planned investment.

Available designs and alternatives are reviewed against the requirements, source information and consistency of assumptions across documents. We identify missing data, contradictions and matters for designers or suppliers to clarify. This supports comparison on a common basis and checks whether conditions for later verification have been considered, rather than relying only on a general statement of compliance.

The review is based on the submitted documentation and does not automatically verify the performance of a future installation. Changes to the design or equipment information may require another review. Supply and installation of noise controls are excluded; the service organises requirements and highlights risks and questions worth resolving before procurement or construction proceeds.

Technical data

Subject Acoustic criteria for a design, specification or proposed alternatives.
Service type Requirement definition and expert review of design documentation.
Assessment basis and requirements Investor objectives, location conditions, equipment data, design documents and relevant assessment criteria.
Method
  1. Distinguish requirements for noise sources and receiver locations.
  2. Define reference conditions and information required from suppliers.
  3. Review designs and compare alternatives against agreed criteria.
  4. Document comments and conditions for subsequent performance checks.

What you receive

You receive requirements for the design or specification and a review report. The material presents criteria, their application conditions and comments on the documents reviewed, including questions requiring answers. It supports discussions with designers and suppliers and preparation for future performance checks, without including supply or installation of noise controls.

Scope and limitations

Supply and installation of noise control measures excluded
