Spatial analysis of environmental constraints

See where environmental conditions influence the choice of solution

We first define the decision question and geographical scope. The task may concern alternative sites, an infrastructure route or the arrangement of project elements. Available environmental and project layers are selected after reviewing their sources, dates, accuracy and suitability. Evidence representing actual investigation is distinguished from indicative material that requires a more cautious interpretation.

Coordinate systems, geometry and attributes are organised before analyses are carried out against the agreed criteria. We examine overlaps, distances or other relevant spatial relationships. Alternatives are compared on a consistent basis, with the rules documented so a map explains both where a potential conflict occurs and why it has been identified in the assessment.

GIS findings guide further work but do not automatically replace field investigations or formal confirmation of constraints. An object missing from an available dataset is not evidence that it does not exist. The report identifies uncertainties relevant to the decision and locations where better information or specialist verification could change the assessment of an option.

Technical data

Subject Spatial relationships between a proposed project and environmental conditions.
Service type GIS-based location assessment, conflict identification and comparison of alternatives.
Assessment basis and requirements Agreed assessment criteria, option geometries and available spatial data with their currency and accuracy considered.
Method
  1. Define the decision question, geographical boundaries and alternatives.
  2. Review sources and organise spatial geometry and attributes.
  3. Analyse spatial relationships against the agreed criteria.
  4. Prepare maps, compare options and interpret relevant limitations.
Delivery model KFB Enviro

What you receive

You receive analytical maps and a spatial report showing identified constraints, conflicts and differences between options. The material documents assessment criteria, information sources and important limitations. It helps direct subsequent investigations towards the relevant locations and allows project teams to discuss alternatives using a shared and clearly explained spatial evidence base.

Noise action plan

Move from exposure assessment to an action programme

We use noise maps and exposure information alongside current plans and local conditions. Areas requiring attention are identified, together with actions already planned or under way. This prevents the programme from becoming a detached list of proposals with no connection to the operator's practical circumstances or the specific conditions at individual locations within the assessed area.

Potential measures are examined for their relevance to identified problems and their organisational and spatial dependencies. We establish justified priorities and explain what information is needed to prepare actions further. The programme connects diagnosis to a direction of travel, describing progress assessment and the coordination required between those responsible for planning, operating infrastructure and managing land use.

Programme effectiveness depends on the subsequent preparation and implementation of specific projects and on the currency of its inputs. The document itself is not a noise control design or proof of improvement. We distinguish actions that can be planned directly from those needing further technical assessment or agreement, maintaining a clear basis for subsequent public decisions.

Technical data

Subject Strategic actions to reduce environmental noise exposure.
Service type Noise action plan within the Polish environmental planning context.
Assessment basis and requirements Noise maps, exposure data, applicable programme scope and available information on existing plans and potential measures.
Method
  1. Review mapping, exposure information and existing action plans.
  2. Identify areas warranting priority attention and further assessment.
  3. Evaluate action directions and the conditions for their preparation.
  4. Prepare a programme with priorities and progress assessment principles.
Delivery model KFB Enviro

What you receive

You receive a noise action plan linking identified problems with proposed action directions and priorities. The document explains the basis for selection, dependencies and information needed at later stages. It supports programme management and coordination between responsible organisations, distinguishing action planning from the design and construction of specific noise controls.

Strategic noise mapping

Connect spatial and acoustic information at a strategic scale

Strategic mapping requires a consistent basis for multiple datasets. We define the area, sources and reference period, then review terrain, buildings, traffic and exposure information. Data completeness and spatial consistency are checked so that local gaps or different update dates do not become hidden assumptions affecting the entire assessment of a city or infrastructure network.

We prepare model inputs, assign source parameters and carry out calculations within the agreed scope. Results are converted into maps and summaries showing spatial differences in the acoustic situation. Data origins and significant methodological decisions are documented, explaining how assumptions about traffic, buildings and assessment periods influence the resulting picture of noise exposure.

A strategic assessment does not replace investigation of an individual event or a short-term measurement addressing a particular complaint. Results represent the map's reference conditions and depend on input quality. We identify limitations and matters relevant to future updates, supporting selection of areas for closer assessment and preparation of a subsequent action programme.

Technical data

Subject Spatial noise and exposure patterns across cities or infrastructure networks.
Service type Strategic noise mapping supported by GIS data analysis.
Assessment basis and requirements Commissioned scope, applicable strategic mapping requirements and spatial, traffic and exposure information.
Method
  1. Define the mapping area, sources and reference period.
  2. Check and prepare spatial information and traffic datasets.
  3. Model noise and derive spatial distributions of results.
  4. Prepare maps, summaries and documentation of the methodology.
Delivery model KFB Enviro

What you receive

You receive a strategic noise map and supporting report describing data, methods, findings and limitations. Map and summary coverage follows the agreed assignment. The material provides an organised basis for interpreting exposure, planning actions and future updates, while maintaining the distinction between strategic assessment and local noise problem investigation.
